Metrinor

Presentation:Each tablet contains 2 mg of dienogest.Tablets are typically white or off-white, round, and film-coated. Available in blister packs.

Indications:Metrinor (dienogest) is indicated for the treatment of endometriosis.  

Dosage and Administration:The dosage of Metrinor is 2 mg taken orally once daily, without any break.Tablet-taking can be started on any day of the menstrual cycle. The tablet should be taken preferably at the same time each day with some liquid.Tablets must be taken continuously without regard to vaginal bleeding. When a pack is finished, the next one should be started without interruption.In the event of a missed tablet, the woman should take it as soon as she remembers and continue the next day at her usual time. A tablet not absorbed due to vomiting or diarrhea should also be replaced with another 2 mg tablet.  

Side Effects: Undesirable effects are more common during the first months of treatment and usually subside with continued use. The most frequently reported side effects include headache, breast discomfort, depressed mood, and acne. Other possible side effects include weight increase, sleep disorder, nervousness, loss of libido, altered mood, migraine, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, vomiting, alopecia, back pain, ovarian cyst, hot flush, and uterine/vaginal bleeding (including spotting).

Precautions: Before starting Metrinor, pregnancy must be excluded. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to dienogest, active venous thromboembolic disorder, arterial and cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus with vascular involvement, severe hepatic disease, liver tumors, known or suspected sex hormone-dependent malignancies,and undiagnosed vaginal bleeding. Use with caution in patients with a history of extrauterine pregnancy or impairment of tube function, depression, chloasma gravidarum, or gestational diabetes. Metrinor is not a contraceptive.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
