Micogyl 

Presentation: Micogyl is a brand name for Metronidazole vaginal gel. It typically contains Metronidazole at a concentration of 0.75% w/w. It is usually available in a tube with single-use applicators for intravaginal administration. The marketing company in Bangladesh may vary.

Indications: Micogyl (Metronidazole vaginal gel) is indicated for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV), a vaginal infection resulting from an overgrowth of certain bacteria.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose is one applicator full of Micogyl vaginal gel (approximately 5 grams containing approximately 37.5 mg of Metronidazole) administered intravaginally once or twice a day for 5 days. For once-daily dosing, the gel should be administered at bedtime. The applicator should be filled with the gel and gently inserted into the vagina, and the plunger should be pushed to release the medication. For twice-daily dosing, the applicator should be washed, rinsed, and dried after the morning application for reuse in the evening.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include vaginal itching, irritation, or burning. Other possible side effects include headache, nausea, stomach upset, and a metallic taste.

Precautions: Micogyl (Metronidazole vaginal gel) is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to metronidazole, parabens, or other nitroimidazole derivatives. Patients should be advised to avoid consuming alcohol during treatment and for at least 24 hours after the last dose due to the potential for a disulfiram-like reaction. It is not recommended to have vaginal intercourse or use other vaginal products (such as tampons or douches) during treatment.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Metronidazole is classified as Pregnancy Category B. It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Metronidazole is excreted in human milk, and caution should be exercised when administering Micogyl to a nursing woman. Consideration should be given to temporarily discontinuing breastfeeding during treatment.

Storage: Store below 30°C. Keep away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
