Migranil 0.5

Presentation: Each tablet contains Pizotifen Malate BP equivalent to Pizotifen BP 0.5 mg.

Indications: Migranil is indicated for the prophylactic treatment of vascular headaches of the migraine type, including classical migraine, common migraine, and cluster headache. It is not effective in relieving migraine attacks once they have started.

Dosage & Administration: The usual adult dose is 1.5 mg daily, which may be taken as a single dose at night or divided into three doses of 0.5 mg each. Dosage should be adjusted according to individual patient requirements, with a maximum daily dose of 4.5 mg. Up to 3 mg may be given as a single dose. For children over 2 years, the dose is up to 1.5 mg daily, usually in divided doses, with a maximum single dose of 1 mg at night. Follow the physician's instructions.

Side Effects: The most common side effects reported are increased appetite, weight gain, and drowsiness.

Precautions: Caution should be exercised in patients with urinary retention and renal impairment. Pizotifen may enhance the effects of alcohol. Drowsiness may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. It should probably not be used in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma or prostate hypertrophy. Avoid abrupt withdrawal of the medication. Use during pregnancy should only occur if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus, and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Drug Interactions:The central effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines (including certain common cold preparations), and alcohol may be enhanced by Migranil.It may also antagonize the hypotensive effect of adrenergic neuron blockers.

Storage: Store in a dry place, away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
