Migrium 5 Tablet
Generic Name: Flunarizine Hydrochloride

Strength: Available in 5 mg tablets.
Indications:
- Prevention of migraine headaches (classic with aura or common without aura).
- Symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo (dizziness) due to diagnosed functional disorder of the vestibular system.
- Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD).
- Motion sickness.
- Refractory epilepsy (resistant to other treatments).
Dosage and Administration:
- Dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and patient age.
- Migraine Prophylaxis:
- Starting dose for adults under 65: 10 mg at night.
- Starting dose for adults over 65: 5 mg daily.
- If effective after 2 months, the dose may be reduced for maintenance.
- Treatment should be interrupted after 6 months and restarted only if migraines return.
- Vertigo and Motion Sickness: 10-20 mg daily for adults, 5 mg daily for children (>40 kg).
- Peripheral Vascular Disease: 10 mg twice daily, up to 30 mg per day if needed.
- Epileptic Seizure: 15-20 mg daily for adults, 5-10 mg daily for children (as add-on therapy).
- May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to flunarizine.
- History of depressive illness.
- Pre-existing symptoms of Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal disorders.
Side Effects:
- Common: Drowsiness, fatigue, weight gain, increased appetite.
- Less Common: Depression (especially in those with a history), extrapyramidal symptoms (tremors, stiffness, slow movement), heartburn, nausea, stomach pain, insomnia, anxiety, dry mouth, muscle ache, skin rash, milky discharge from nipples (galactorrhea).
Precautions:
- May cause drowsiness, avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
- Alcohol and other CNS depressants can worsen drowsiness.
- Use with caution in the elderly.
- Use with caution in patients with liver disease.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of depression.
- Migraine attacks may still occur while taking Migrium; do not increase the dose to treat an acute attack.
Use in Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Consult your doctor before using if pregnant or breastfeeding.
Storage:
- Keep below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
- Keep out of reach of children.
