Milam 7.5

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Midazolam Maleate BP equivalent to Midazolam 7.5 mg. Available in boxes containing strips of tablets, with the number of tablets per strip determined by Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Milam (Midazolam) is indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It is also used for sedation with amnesia, sedation in premedication and induction of anesthesia before surgical or diagnostic procedures.

Dosage and Administration: For adults, the usual dose is 7.5 mg to 15 mg daily. For elderly or frail patients, the recommended dose is 7.5 mg daily. In premedication, 15 mg may be given 30-60 minutes before the procedure. The duration of treatment should usually not exceed 2 weeks. It is administered orally and should be taken at bedtime for insomnia.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include tiredness, drowsiness, muscle weakness, confusion, ataxia (especially in the elderly), and amnesia. These effects often occur at the start of treatment and usually disappear with dose reduction or continued therapy. Respiratory depression and respiratory arrest have been reported, particularly with high doses.

Precautions: Milam is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to midazolam or other benzodiazepines, severe respiratory depression, acute pulmonary insufficiency, sleep apnea syndrome, severe hepatic impairment, and myasthenia gravis. It should generally be avoided during pregnancy and by nursing mothers. Caution should be exercised in elderly or frail patients and those with mild to moderate hepatic or renal impairment. Concomitant use with CNS depressant medications or substances that interfere with midazolam metabolism (e.g., erythromycin, azole antifungals, cimetidine) requires caution. Alcohol should be avoided during treatment. Prolonged use may lead to drug dependence in predisposed individuals. May cause drowsiness, affecting the ability to perform skilled tasks like driving.

Storage: Do not store above 30°C. Keep away from light and wet places. Keep out of reach of children.
