Minicon

Presentation: Each tablet contains 0.075 mg of norgestrel.

Indications: Minicon is a progestogen-only oral contraceptive pill indicated for the prevention of pregnancy. It is suitable for women who cannot take estrogens, including breastfeeding mothers.

Dosage and Administration: One tablet is to be taken orally at the same time each day, without any break between packs. A new pack should be started immediately after the previous one is finished. For breastfeeding women, it is usually recommended to start Minicon no earlier than 6 weeks postpartum. For others, it can be started on the first day of menstruation. Consistent daily intake at the same time is essential for contraceptive effectiveness. If a tablet is taken more than 3 hours late, backup contraception (e.g., condoms) should be used for the next 48 hours.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include changes in menstrual bleeding patterns (irregular bleeding, spotting, or complete cessation of periods), headache, nausea, breast tenderness, and mood changes. Less common side effects can include acne and weight changes.

Precautions: Minicon should not be used if you are pregnant or suspect you are pregnant, have a history of breast cancer, have undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding, severe liver disease, or are allergic to any of the ingredients. The effectiveness of Minicon may be reduced if taken with certain other medications that induce liver enzymes, such as some epilepsy medications (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine), some antibiotics (e.g., rifampicin), and some antifungals (e.g., griseofulvin). Minicon does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
