Miptol 

Presentation:Miptol is a brand name primarily known for containing Misoprostol.Each tablet typically contains Misoprostol BP 200 mcg.  

Indications: Miptol (Misoprostol) has several indications, including:

• Prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers:In patients at high risk of complications from gastric ulcers, such as the elderly or those with a history of ulcers.  
• Healing of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
• Medical abortion:Used to terminate pregnancy, often in combination with Mifepristone.  
• Induction of labor.  
• Prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage.  

Dosage and Administration: Dosage varies significantly depending on the indication. Always follow the instructions provided by a physician.

• For prevention of NSAID-induced ulcers:The usual adult oral dose is 200 mcg four times daily with food.A dose of 100 mcg four times daily may be used if not tolerated.
• For healing ulcers: 800 mcg daily in 2-4 divided doses with meals and at bedtime, usually for at least 4 weeks.
• For medical abortion: Usually 600-800 mcg orally or vaginally, following Mifepristone, under strict medical supervision.
• For induction of labor and postpartum hemorrhage: Dosage and route (oral, vaginal, rectal) vary based on the specific clinical situation and guidelines.

Miptol tablets are usually taken with food.  

Side Effects: Common side effects often involve the gastrointestinal system and may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and dyspepsia. Gynaecological side effects such as spotting, cramps, and menstrual disorders may also occur.  

Precautions:Miptol (Misoprostol) is contraindicated in women who are pregnant when used for its anti-ulcer properties due to its abortifacient properties.It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of allergy to prostaglandins.Caution should be used in patients with conditions where hypotension might precipitate severe complications.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Miptol is contraindicated during pregnancy when used for ulcer prevention or treatment. It is used to terminate pregnancy under medical supervision. Misoprostol may pass into breast milk and could cause diarrhea in nursing infants; caution is advised during breastfeeding.

Storage:Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light.Keep out of reach of children.
