Miracal-D 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Carbonate (from coral source) and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). Strengths may vary; common presentations include Calcium Carbonate equivalent to Elemental Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 200 IU, or Calcium Carbonate equivalent to Elemental Calcium 600 mg and Vitamin D3 400 IU. Also available in higher strengths of Vitamin D3 (e.g., 60,000 IU). May contain other ingredients like Magnesium and Zinc. Available in strips, manufactured by Navana Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and other companies in Bangladesh.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium and Vitamin D deficiency. Used in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disorders. Also used as a supplement to ensure adequate intake during pregnancy and lactation, osteogenesis, tooth formation, and with anti-seizure medications. May be used as a routine supplement and phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage varies depending on the strength and indication.

• Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 200 IU: Usually 2 tablets daily or 1 tablet twice daily, preferably with or just after a meal to improve absorption.
• Calcium 600 mg and Vitamin D3 400 IU: Usually 1 tablet twice daily, preferably with or just after a meal to improve absorption.
• Follow the physician's instructions for other strengths.

Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated. Possible side effects may include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, dry mouth, increased thirst, and increased urination. Constipation may also occur.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hyperthyroidism, renal calculi (kidney stones), nephrolithiasis, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Caution should be taken in patients with pre-existing heart disease or kidney disease. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be as directed by a physician. May interact with calcium, aluminum, or magnesium-containing antacids, other calcium or Vitamin D3 supplements, digoxin, tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or oxytetracycline.

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
