Mitaprex 30

Presentation:

Each tablet contains 30 mg of Mirtazapine USP.

Indications:

Mitaprex (Mirtazapine) is indicated for the treatment of depression, specifically major depressive disorder (MDD).

Dosage and Administration:

Adults: The recommended starting dose is 15 mg daily, administered as a single dose, preferably in the evening or prior to sleep. The effective dose range is generally 15 to 45 mg per day. Dosage adjustments should be made at intervals of 1-2 weeks based on clinical response. The maximum dose is 45 mg daily. It can be taken with or without food.

Children: Safety and efficacy have not been established in children.

Geriatric: Use with caution.

Side Effects:

The most commonly reported adverse effects include:

• Increased appetite  
• Weight gain  
• Edema (swelling)  
• Drowsiness or sedation  
• Dizziness  
• Headache  
• Dry mouth  

Less common side effects may include confusion, muscle twitching, peripheral edema, and elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels.

Precautions:

• Use cautiously in patients with epilepsy or a history of seizures, mania/hypomania, hepatic or renal impairment, and cardiac disorders.  
• Monitor for signs of bone marrow depression and suicidal tendencies.  
• Avoid abrupt withdrawal of the medication.
• May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery.  
• Should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.  

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to Mirtazapine or any of the excipients.  
• Concomitant use with or within 14 days of stopping a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI).  

Drug Interactions:

• Potentiates sedative effects of alcohol and benzodiazepines.  
• Plasma levels may be increased by potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., HIV-protease inhibitors, azole antifungals, erythromycin, nefazodone).  
• Plasma levels may be reduced by carbamazepine and other inducers of CYP3A4.

Storage:

Store at 15°C-30°C, protected from light and moisture.22 Keep out of the reach of children.
