Indications:
Modipran is indicated for the treatment of:
- Major Depressive Disorder

Pharmacology:
Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It works by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the central nervous system, increasing serotonin levels in the synaptic cleft.
Dosage and Administration:
- The usual dose is 20 mg daily. The dosage may be increased to a maximum of 80 mg daily by the physician. Doses above 20 mg/day may be administered once a day (in the morning) or twice a day (i.e., morning and noon).
Contraindications:
Modipran is contraindicated in patients with:
- Hypersensitivity to fluoxetine.
- Concomitant use with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). At least 14 days should elapse between discontinuation of an MAOI and initiation of therapy with fluoxetine.
Precautions:
- Rash and possible systemic events (e.g., fever, leukocytosis, arthralgia, edema, carpal tunnel syndrome, respiratory distress, and/or hypotension) have been reported in association with fluoxetine.
- Patients should be advised to notify their physician if any symptoms of clinical worsening and/or emergence of suicidal ideation or suicidal behavior occur, especially during the initial few months of a course of drug therapy, or at times of dose changes.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures.
- Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment.

- Common side effects include nausea, insomnia, headache, anxiety, nervousness, and diarrhea.
Drug Interactions:
- Fluoxetine should not be used with MAOIs.
