Monocal D (30)

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP 1250 mg equivalent to Elemental Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 BP 200 IU (as Cholecalciferol).

Indications: Monocal D is indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium and Vitamin D deficiency. It is used in conditions such as:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Osteomalacia and rickets
  • Tetany
  • Hypoparathyroidism
  • As a supplement during periods of increased calcium requirements such as pregnancy, lactation, and rapid growth in children.
  • May also be used as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure under strict medical supervision.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dosage is 1 to 2 tablets daily, or as directed by a physician. It is generally recommended to take the tablets with or after meals to enhance absorption. Swallow the tablets whole with plenty of water. Do not exceed the recommended dose. The dosage for phosphate binding in chronic renal failure will be specifically determined by the physician based on individual patient needs and laboratory values.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Gastrointestinal disturbances such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, and abdominal pain.
  • Rarely, hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) may occur, especially with high doses or in individuals with impaired kidney function.

Precautions:

  • Monocal D is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria, and hyperparathyroidism.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, cardiac disease, and those with a history of kidney stones.
  • May interact with several medications, including tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics, bisphosphonates, levothyroxine, thiazide diuretics, cardiac glycosides, and iron supplements. Separate administration times as advised by your doctor.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Store below 30°C.
