Mucomist-DT
Presentation: Dispersible Tablets containing N-Acetylcysteine 200 mg.
Indications:
- As a mucolytic agent for the adjunctive therapy of respiratory conditions characterized by excessive or viscous mucus, such as acute and chronic bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, and pneumonia.
- As an antidote for paracetamol (acetaminophen) overdose.
Dosage & Administration:
- As a Mucolytic:
- Adults and Children over 6 years: 200 mg (1 tablet) two to three times daily.
- Children 2-6 years: 100 mg (½ tablet) two to three times daily.
- The tablet should be dissolved in a small amount of water before administration.
- As an Antidote for Paracetamol Overdose: Dosage regimens vary depending on the time since overdose and serum paracetamol levels. It is usually administered orally as a loading dose followed by maintenance doses at specific intervals. This use should be under strict medical supervision in a hospital setting.
Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated. Occasionally, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur. Hypersensitivity reactions, such as rash, itching, and bronchospasm, are rare.
Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with a history of asthma or bronchospasm, as it may trigger these conditions in susceptible individuals.
- Cough should be sufficiently forceful to expectorate the loosened secretions. If cough is ineffective, postural drainage or mechanical suction may be necessary.
