Myrica 75mg Capsule

Generic Name: Pregabalin

Indications:

• Neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy

• Postherpetic neuralgia

• Adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures in patients 1 month of age and older

• Fibromyalgia

• Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury

Pharmacology:

• Pregabalin binds to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system.

Dosage & Administration:

• The total daily dose is usually started at 150 mg per day, divided into two or three doses.

• The dose may be increased based on individual patient response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 600 mg per day.

• Capsules can be taken with or without food.

Contraindications:

• Patients with known hypersensitivity to pregabalin or any of its components.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include:

• Dizziness

• Somnolence

• Dry mouth

• Edema

• Blurred vision

• Weight gain

• Thinking abnormalities (primarily difficulty with concentration/attention)

Less common but serious side effects:

• Angioedema

• Increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior

• Respiratory depression

• Peripheral edema

Precautions:

• Pregabalin may cause dizziness and somnolence and impair a patient's ability to drive or operate machinery.

• Withdrawal symptoms may occur if the drug is abruptly discontinued.

• Use with caution in patients with kidney disease.
