Naprosyn 500 is a tablet containing 500 mg of Naproxen. Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, inflammation, swelling, and stiffness caused by various conditions.  

Indications:

Naprosyn 500 is indicated for the relief of:  

• Rheumatoid arthritis  
• Osteoarthritis  
• Ankylosing spondylitis  
• Juvenile arthritis  
• Tendonitis  
• Bursitis  
• Acute gout  
• Mild to moderate pain  
• Primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps)  

Dosage and Administration:

The dosage of Naprosyn 500 depends on the condition being treated and individual response. Always follow your doctor's instructions. General dosage guidelines for adults are:  

• Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and Ankylosing Spondylitis: 500 mg to 1000 mg daily, usually in two divided doses 12 hours apart, or as a single daily dose. Your doctor may start you on a higher dose during the acute phase.  
• Acute Gout: 750 mg as an initial dose, followed by 250 mg every 8 hours until the attack subsides.  
• Pain and Primary Dysmenorrhea: 500 mg as an initial dose, followed by 250 mg every 6-8 hours as needed. The total daily dose should not exceed 1250 mg on the first day and 1000 mg on subsequent days.  

Naprosyn 500 tablets should be swallowed whole with water, preferably with or after food to minimize stomach upset.  

Contraindications:

Naprosyn is contraindicated in patients with:  

• Known hypersensitivity to naproxen or any other NSAIDs.  
• A history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.  
• Active or a history of stomach ulcer, bleeding in the stomach or intestines.  
• Severe liver or kidney problems.  
• Heart failure.  
• The last 3 months of pregnancy.  
• In the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.  

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:  

• Heartburn  
• Nausea  
• Stomach pain  
• Indigestion  
• Constipation  
• Diarrhea  
• Headache  
• Dizziness  
• Drowsiness  
• Skin rash  
• Bruising  
• Ringing in the ears  

Serious side effects can occur. Stop taking Naprosyn and contact your doctor immediately if you experience:  

• Signs of stomach or intestinal bleeding.  
• Chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech (signs of a heart attack or stroke).  
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes, fatigue, loss of appetite (signs of liver problems).  
• Swelling in the ankles or feet, decreased urination (signs of kidney problems).  
• Severe allergic reaction.  

Precautions:

Before taking Naprosyn 500, tell your doctor if you have:  

• A history of stomach ulcers or bleeding.  
• Heart disease or risk factors for heart disease.  
• Kidney or liver disease.  
• High blood pressure.  
• Asthma.  
• Bleeding disorders.  
• Lumps in the nose (nasal polyps).  
• An autoimmune condition like lupus.  

Naprosyn can interact with other medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.  

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be discussed with your doctor. Naprosyn is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester, and may pass into breast milk.
