Natcal DX 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Carbonate (from Coral source) USP and Vitamin D3 USP (as Cholecalciferol). The strength typically varies, with common presentations including:

  • Calcium Carbonate 1250 mg (equivalent to elemental Calcium 500 mg) and Vitamin D3 200 IU.
  • Calcium Carbonate 1500 mg (equivalent to elemental Calcium 600 mg) and Vitamin D3 400 IU. 

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate (from Coral source) USP and Vitamin D3 USP (Cholecalciferol). The specific amount of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 will be mentioned on the product packaging.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium and Vitamin D deficiency. It is used in conditions such as:

  • Osteoporosis and associated fractures.
  • Osteomalacia and rickets.
  • Tetany.
  • Hypoparathyroidism.
  • As a supplement during pregnancy and lactation.
  • During periods of rapid growth in children and adolescents.
  • In elderly patients with inadequate intake.
  • As a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure (under medical supervision).

Dosage and Administration: Dosage depends on the strength of the tablet and the individual's needs, as directed by a physician. Typical adult dosage is one tablet once or twice daily, preferably with or just after a meal to improve absorption.

Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated. Possible side effects may include:

  • Gastrointestinal disturbances such as flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, and upper gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Rarely, hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood) may occur with prolonged use.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria, hyperparathyroidism, nephrolithiasis (kidney stones), and severe renal insufficiency. Caution should be exercised in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment and a history of renal stones. May interact with certain medications, including thiazide diuretics, tetracycline antibiotics, bisphosphonates, and digoxin. Separate administration times may be necessary.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Store below 30°C.
