Nebilol 2.5 Tablet

Presentation: Each tablet contains 2.5 mg of Nebivolol.

Indications: Nebilol is a beta-blocker primarily used to treat:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure).
• Stable mild and moderate chronic heart failure in elderly patients (70 years and older), as an add-on to standard therapies.

Dosage and Administration: For hypertension, the usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily. However, your doctor may prescribe 2.5 mg once daily initially, particularly if you have kidney or liver problems. The dosage can be gradually increased at 2-week intervals if needed, up to a maximum of 40 mg daily.

For chronic heart failure, the starting dose is typically 1.25 mg once daily, with increases every 1-2 weeks as tolerated, up to a maximum of 10 mg once daily.

Nebilol can be taken with or without food. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions precisely and not to stop taking the medication suddenly, as this can lead to a sudden increase in blood pressure.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Headache
• Fatigue
• Dizziness
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Slow heart rate (bradycardia)
• Cold extremities

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. It is crucial to discuss any unusual symptoms with your doctor.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease, asthma or other breathing problems, diabetes, slow heart rate, or heart block.
• Nebilol may mask the symptoms of low blood sugar in individuals with diabetes. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is important.
• Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Nebilol as it may increase drowsiness and dizziness.
• Nebilol may not be safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor.
• This medication may decrease alertness, affect vision, or cause sleepiness and dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.

Contraindications: Nebilol is contraindicated in patients with:

• Severe bradycardia (very slow heart rate).
• Heart block greater than first degree.
• Cardiogenic shock (a serious heart condition).
• Decompensated heart failure (worsening heart failure).
• Sick sinus syndrome (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place).
• Severe liver impairment.
• Hypersensitivity to nebivolol or any of its components.

Drug Interactions: Nebilol can interact with various medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements. Significant interactions can occur with:

• Other blood pressure medications.
• Heart medications (e.g., digoxin, antiarrhythmics).
• Certain calcium channel blockers (e.g., verapamil, diltiazem).
• Certain antidepressants (e.g., paroxetine, fluoxetine).
• Antidiabetic medications.
