Nebita 2.5

Presentation: Each tablet contains Nebivolol Hydrochloride equivalent to Nebivolol 2.5 mg. Available in blister packs containing strips of tablets. The number of tablets per strip may vary depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh. The 2.5 mg strength is often used as a starting dose, particularly in elderly patients or those with certain comorbidities, for the treatment of hypertension. It allows for gradual titration to the effective maintenance dose.

Indications: Nebita (Nebivolol) is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive medications to achieve target blood pressure levels.  Nebivolol is a selective β1-adrenergic receptor blocker with an additional vasodilatory effect mediated through the L-arginine/nitric oxide pathway.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose for hypertension in adults is 5 mg once daily. However, in elderly patients (over 65 years) or patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, a lower initial dose of 2.5 mg once daily may be considered. The dose may be increased gradually at intervals of 2 weeks, as needed and tolerated, to a maximum of 40 mg once daily. Nebita tablets should be taken orally once daily, preferably at the same time each day, and can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Nebivolol may include headache, fatigue, dizziness, and diarrhea. Less frequent side effects can include bradycardia (slow heart rate), hypotension (low blood pressure), paresthesia (tingling or numbness), and shortness of breath. These side effects are typically mild and transient. However, patients should inform their doctor if they experience any persistent or bothersome symptoms.

Precautions: Nebita is contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place), second- or third-degree AV block, cardiogenic shock, and decompensated heart failure. It should be used with caution in patients with compensated heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes mellitus (as it may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia), and hyperthyroidism (as it may mask signs of thyrotoxicosis). Abrupt cessation of Nebita should be avoided, especially in patients with ischemic heart disease, as it may lead to angina or myocardial infarction.

Storage: Store Nebita 2.5 mg tablets in a cool and dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
