Neumig 10mg Tablet: A Treatment for Neuropathic Pain
Neumig 10mg tablet contains Mirogabalin Besylate, a medication indicated for the treatment of various types of neuropathic pain, including diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN).
How Neumig Works (Pharmacology)
Mirogabalin exerts its therapeutic effects by selectively and potently binding to the alpha-2-delta (α2δ) subunits of voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs). These channels are crucial for neurotransmission, particularly in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG), which play a significant role in pain signaling. By binding to these subunits, Mirogabalin reduces calcium (Ca2+) influx and neurotransmission in the DRG, leading to the inhibition of neurotransmitter release in pre-synaptic neuron endings. This mechanism ultimately helps to alleviate neuropathic pain.
Key Indications & Benefits
Neumig 10mg is indicated for the treatment of:
- Neuropathic Pain
- Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP)
- Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN)
- Peripheral neuropathic pain (PNP)
Dosage & Administration
Neumig 10mg is taken orally. The dosage should be adjusted based on the patient's age and symptoms. Always take medicine as per doctor's advice.
- Initial Dose (Adults): 5 mg of Mirogabalin given orally twice daily.
- Gradual Increase: The dose should be gradually increased by 5 mg at an interval of at least a week, up to 15 mg, given orally twice daily.
- Adjusted Dose: The dose may be adjusted appropriately between 10 mg and 15 mg, given twice daily, depending on ages and symptoms.
Important Considerations & Warnings
It is crucial to discuss your full medical history with your doctor before taking Neumig 10mg.
Contraindications:
- Patients with hypersensitivity to Mirogabalin.
- Patients with mild to moderate hepatic and renal impairment.
Side Effects:
- Most commonly reported adverse reactions: Somnolence (drowsiness), dizziness, edema (swelling), and weight gain.
- Rare, but serious (seek immediate medical attention if these occur):
- Lightheadedness, a state close to sleep with impaired consciousness, loss of consciousness (indicating potential dizziness, somnolence, unconsciousness).
- General malaise, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, jaundice (indicating potential liver dysfunction).
Drug Interactions:
- Mirogabalin does not induce or inhibit cytochrome P450 isoenzymes, which are involved in the metabolism of many drugs.
- Increased Mirogabalin plasma concentration: Coadministration with Cimetidine or Probenecid may raise the Mirogabalin plasma concentration.
- Potentiated CNS depressive effects: If Mirogabalin is taken with alcohol or lorazepam, the depressive effects on the central nervous system (CNS) may be enhanced.
Precautions & Warnings:
- CNS Depression: This medicine may cause dizziness, somnolence, or loss of consciousness. Therefore, avoid operating dangerous machinery, such as driving a car.
- Elderly Patients: Careful attention should be paid, especially for elderly patients, regarding the CNS effects.
- Weight Gain: This medicine may cause weight gain.
- Vision Disturbances: This medicine may cause blurred vision and double vision.
