Nexcital 10

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Escitalopram Oxalate INN equivalent to Escitalopram 10 mg. Available in blister packs containing strips of tablets. The number of tablets per strip may vary depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh. The 10 mg strength is a common starting and maintenance dose for various anxiety and depressive disorders.

Indications: Nexcital (Escitalopram) is indicated for the treatment of major depressive episodes, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), generalized anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsivedisorder. It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, which helps to improve mood and reduceanxiety.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose for major depressive episodes and generalized anxiety disorder in adults is 10 mg once daily. Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily. For panic disorder, an initial dose of 5 mg once daily is recommended for the first week, followed by an increase to 10 mg daily. The dose may be further increased, up to a maximum of 20 mg daily, based on individual response. For social anxiety disorder, the usual dosage is 10 mg once daily, which may be adjusted between 5 mg and 20 mg daily based on response. For obsessive-compulsive disorder, the initial dosage is 10 mg once daily, with a possible increase to a maximum of 20 mg daily. Elderly patients are usually started on a lower dose, such as 5 mg once daily, with a maximum recommended dose of 10 mg daily. Nexcital tablets should be administered orally once daily, in the morning or evening, with or without food.

Side Effects: Commonly reported side effects associated with Escitalopram include nausea, insomnia, ejaculation disorder, drowsiness, increased sweating, and fatigue. Other potential side effects may include headache, dry mouth, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, anxiety, and changes in appetite or weight. Most side effects are mild and transient, but patients should consult their doctor if they become persistent or bothersome.

Precautions: Nexcital is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to escitalopram or citalopram and in patients taking non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or pimozide. Treatment with Nexcital should not be initiated until at least 14 days after discontinuation of an irreversible MAOI or at least one day after discontinuation of a reversible MAOI. Similarly, MAOI therapy should not be started until at least 7 days after stopping Nexcital. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of mania, seizures, hepatic or renal impairment, cardiac disease, or bleeding disorders. Escitalopram may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior, especially in children, adolescents, and young adults.Patients should be monitored closely for any changes in mood or behavior. It should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and only if the potential benefits outweigh the risksto the fetus or infant. Avoid abrupt discontinuation of Nexcital to minimize withdrawal symptoms.

Storage: Store Nexcital 10 mg tablets in a cool and dry place below 30°C, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
