Indications
Nimovo is indicated for the relief of signs and symptoms of:
Osteoarthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Ankylosing Spondylitis
To decrease the risk of developing gastric ulcers in patients at risk of -associated gastric ulcers.
Pharmacology
The tablet consists of two layers:
Esomeprazole Magnesium (Immediate Release): A Proton Pump Inhibitor () that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the - (proton pump) in the stomach's parietal cells. This protects the stomach lining.
Naproxen (Enteric-Coated Core): A Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug () that provides analgesic and antipyretic properties by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
Dosage & Administration
The lowest effective dose for the shortest duration should be used.
Adults (RA, OA, AS): One tablet twice daily of either 375 mg Naproxen/20 mg Esomeprazole OR 500 mg Naproxen/20 mg Esomeprazole.
Administration: Take at least 30 minutes before meals. Do not split, chew, crush, or dissolve the tablet.
Contraindications & Warnings
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to components, history of asthma/allergic reactions to aspirin/, or use during the peri-operative period of surgery.
Gastrointestinal Risk: use carries a risk of serious bleeding, ulceration, or perforation. The Esomeprazole component reduces this risk but does not eliminate it.
Cardiovascular Risk: use may be associated with a small increased risk of arterial thrombotic events (e.g., myocardial infarction or stroke). Patients with disease or risk factors require careful consideration.
Pregnancy: Contraindicated during the third trimester of pregnancy. Should not be used during breastfeeding or by women attempting to conceive.
Interaction
May reduce the effect of inhibitors, diuretics, and beta-blockers.
Increases the risk of bleeding when used with Warfarin.
Esomeprazole may interfere with the absorption of drugs requiring low gastric (e.g., Ketoconazole, Digoxin).
Avoid concurrent use with other (including inhibitors).
