Nintoin SR 100 mg Capsule contains 100 mg of Nitrofurantoin in a sustained-release formulation. It is manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications:

Nintoin SR is indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis (prevention) of urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by susceptible strains of:

• Escherichia coli
• Enterococci
• Staphylococcus aureus
• Staphylococcus saprophyticus
• Certain susceptible strains of Klebsiella and Enterobacter species

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults and Children over 12 years: One 100 mg capsule every 12 hours for seven days. 
• Genito-urinary surgical prophylaxis:One capsule twice daily onthe day of the procedure and for the next 3 days.

Nintoin SR capsules should be taken with food.

Contraindications:

Nintoin SR is contraindicated in patients with:

• Anuria (failure of the kidneys to produce urine)
• Oliguria (production of abnormally small amounts of urine)
• Significant impairment of renal function
• Pregnant patients at 38-42 weeks of gestation, during labor, and delivery.
• Known hypersensitivity to Nitrofurantoin.

Side Effects:

The most frequent side effects are:

• Nausea
• Headache
• Flatulence (gas)

Less frequent side effects include:

• Diarrhea
• Dyspepsia (indigestion)
• Abdominal pain
• Constipation
• Vomiting
• Dizziness
• Drowsiness

Precautions and Warnings:

• Nintoin SR should be discontinued if acute, sub-acute, or chronic pulmonary reactions occur.
• Antacid preparations containing magnesium trisilicate should not be taken while taking Nintoin SR.
