Nobesit 500

Presentation: Each tablet contains 500 mg of metformin hydrochloride.

Indications:Nobesit is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alonedo not result in adequate glycemiccontrol.In adults, it may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or with insulin.In children from 10 years of age and adolescents,it may be used as monotherapy or in combination with insulin.Metformin is also used in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Nobesit should be individualized based on both effectiveness and tolerability, while not exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose.

• Adults:The usual starting dose is 500 mg twice a day or 850 mg once a day, given with meals.Dosage increases should be made in increments of 500 mg weekly or 850 mg every 2 weeks, up to a total of 2000 mg per day, given in divided doses.For those patients requiring additional glycemic control,a maximum daily dose of 2550 mg per day can be used, usually administered three times a day with meals.
• Children (10 years and older) and Adolescents:The usual starting dose is 500 mg twice a day, given with meals.Dosage increases should be made in increments of 500 mg weekly up toa maximum of 2000 mg per day, given in divided doses.Nobesit tablets should be swallowed whole and should be taken with food to help reduce gastrointestinal side effects.  

Side Effects:Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite.These side effects occurmost frequently during initiationof therapy and usually resolve spontaneously.A slow increase of the dose may improve gastrointestinal tolerability. Taste disturbance is also a common side effect.  

Less common but more serious side effects can include lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially life-threatening condition.Symptoms of lactic acidosis may include deep and rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.If you experience these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention. Long-term use of metformin may lead to a decrease in vitamin B12 absorption.  

Precautions:Nobesit is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, and known hypersensitivity to metformin or any of the excipients.It is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Assess renal function before initiation and monitor periodically. Avoid excessive alcohol intake. Metformin should be temporarily discontinued in patients undergoing radiologic studies with intravascular administration of iodinated contrast materials or any surgical procedures necessitating restricted intakeof food and fluids.Caution should be exercised in patients with conditions that may increase the risk of lactic acidosis (e.g., dehydration, severe infection, shock).

Storage:Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
