Nortin 10

Presentation: Tablets containing Nortriptyline Hydrochloride equivalent to Nortriptyline 10 mg.

Indications: Nortin (Nortriptyline) is indicated for the treatment of depressive illness. It may also be used for panic disorder and neuropathic pain. In children, it is sometimes used for nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting).

Dosage and Administration:

• Depression: The usual adult starting dose is a low dose initially, increased as necessary to 75-100 mg daily in divided doses or as a single dose (maximum 150 mg daily). For adolescents and elderly patients, the usual dose is 30-50 mg daily in divided doses.
• Neuropathic Pain: The initial dose is usually 10 mg daily at night, gradually increased if necessary to 75 mg daily; higher doses may be used under specialist supervision.
• Nocturnal Enuresis (in children): For children aged 7 years, the usual dose is 10 mg; for children aged 8-11 years, 10-20 mg; and for children over 11 years, 25-35 mg, taken 30 minutes before bedtime. The maximum treatment period, including gradual withdrawal, is 3 months, and a full physical examination and ECG should be performed before each course.

Nortin tablets are administered orally, and it is often recommended to take the main dose at night due to potential drowsiness. Dosage should be as directed by a healthcare professional. Avoid abrupt withdrawal.

Side Effects: Common adverse reactions may include dry mouth, sedation, constipation, increased appetite, mild blurred vision, and tinnitus. Less common side effects can include rapid or irregular heartbeat, and occasionally euphoria or mania.

Precautions: Nortin is contraindicated with concurrent treatment with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or within two weeks of stopping an MAOI, and during the acute recovery period after myocardial infarction. Caution should be exercised in patients with cardiovascular disease, a history of seizures, diabetes mellitus, narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hyperplasia, or chronic constipation. It may cause drowsiness and impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Alcohol should be avoided.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
