Nortin 25

Presentation: Each tablet contains Nortriptyline Hydrochloride BP equivalent to Nortriptyline base 25 mg.

Indications: Nortin is indicated for the treatment of symptoms of depression. It may also be used for the treatment of nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) in children and for chronic pain conditions as determined by a physician.

Dosage and Administration:

• Depression (Adults): The usual starting dose is 25 mg three or four times daily. Dosage should be increased gradually as needed and tolerated, up to a maximum of 150 mg per day. Alternatively, the total daily dose may be given once daily, preferably at bedtime.
• Depression (Elderly Patients): The initial dose is typically 25 mg once daily, gradually increased as tolerated. Lower doses are usually recommended for elderly patients.
• Nocturnal Enuresis (Children 6 years and older): The dose should be initiated at 10 mg to 25 mg once daily, given 30 minutes to one hour before bedtime. Dosages above 50 mg per day are not recommended. Treatment should be limited to the shortest possible period.
• Chronic Pain: Dosage varies depending on the condition and patient response, typically starting at a low dose and gradually titrated upwards by the physician.

Follow the physician's instructions carefully regarding the dosage and timing of administration.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary hesitancy, dizziness, drowsiness, increased heart rate, and postural hypotension (a drop in blood pressure upon standing).

Precautions: Nortin should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, a history of seizures, glaucoma, urinary retention, or hepatic impairment. It should not be used in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within two weeks of discontinuing MAOI treatment. Caution is advised in patients with hyperthyroidism or those receiving thyroid medication. Nortriptyline may impair the mental and/or physical abilities required for the performance of hazardous tasks, such as operating machinery or driving a car; therefore, the patient should¹be cautioned accordingly. Inform your physician if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Monitor for any signs of clinical worsening, suicidal thoughts, or unusual changes in behavior, especially during the initial months of therapy or when the dosage is adjusted.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
