Nuprazol 20 

Presentation: Nuprazol 20 is available as enteric-coated capsules, each containing Omeprazole USP 20 mg as enteric-coated pellets. Nuprazol 20 is a product of Nuvista Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs. The enteric coating helps to protect the drug from stomach acid and release it in the intestine.

Indications: Nuprazol (Omeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for the treatment of conditions where reduction of gastric acid secretion is required, such as:

• Duodenal ulcers
• Gastric ulcers
• NSAID-associated duodenal and gastric ulcers
• Prophylaxis of NSAID-associated duodenal and gastric ulcers in patients with a history of such conditions
• Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Long-term management of acid reflux disease 
• Acid-related dyspepsia 
• Severe ulcerating reflux esophagitis 
• Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during generalanaesthesia 
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome 
• Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcer disease (in combination with antibiotics).

Dosage and Administration: Nuprazol 20 capsules should be swallowed whole with water, preferably on an empty stomach at least one hour before a meal. Do not chew or crush the capsules. The dosage and duration of treatment are determined by the physician based on the specific condition and individual patient response.

• Gastric ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. In severe cases, 40 mg once daily may be used.
• Duodenal ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks. For maintenance, 20 mg once daily. For prevention of relapse, 10-20 mg daily.
• NSAID-associated ulcers: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks, may continue for another 4 weeks if not fully healed. For prophylaxis in patients with a history, 20 mg once daily.
• GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks, may continue for another 4-8 weeks if not fully healed. For severe cases, 40 mg once daily for 8 weeks may be given. For maintenance, 20 mg once daily. For long-term management, 10-20 mg daily. 
• Acid-related dyspepsia:10-20 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks. 
• Prophylaxis of acid aspiration:40 mg on the preceding evening, then 40 mg 2-6 hours before surgery. 
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome:Initially 60 mg once daily,adjust as needed up to 120 mg daily. Doses above 80 mg should be divided into two daily doses.
• H. pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily in combination with specific antibiotics for 7-14 days.

Side Effects: Nuprazol (Omeprazole) is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include:

• Headache
• Diarrhoea
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Flatulence

Less common side effects may include dizziness, paraesthesia, insomnia, dry mouth, and skin rash. Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fracture, hypomagnesaemia, and vitamin B12 deficiency.

Precautions: Nuprazol (Omeprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any other components of the formulation.

Caution should be exercised in patients with severe liver disease. Before starting treatment, the possibility of gastric malignancy should be excluded. Omeprazole may interact with certain drugs, such as diazepam, warfarin, phenytoin, ketoconazole, and digoxin. Inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies with Omeprazole in pregnant women. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.Omeprazole may pass into breast milk. Breastfeeding should be discontinued if the use of Omeprazole is considered essential. Consult a healthcare professional for advice.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
