Nuvifol 5 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Folinate Hydrate equivalent to Folinic Acid 5 mg. Available in strips. Manufactured by Nuvista Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Calcium Folinate Hydrate BP 6.249 mg equivalent to Folinic Acid 5 mg.

Indications:

• Neutralizing the immediate toxic effects of folic acid antagonists such as Methotrexate. 
• Calcium folinate rescue – a treatment technique using calcium folinate in conjunction with folic acid antagonists (e.g., Methotrexate) to minimizesystemic toxicity.
• Treatment of megaloblastic anemias due to sprue, nutritional deficiency, pregnancy, infancy, liver disease, and malabsorption syndrome.

Dosage & Administration:  

• Reduction of harmful effects of folic acid antagonists:The dose is usually one 5-15 mg tablet every 6 hours for 2 to 3 days. 
• Megaloblastic anemia:   The usual dose is 5-15 mg daily. Or, as directed by a registered physician. Folinic acid rescue should begin as soon as possible after inadvertent overdosage or within 24 hours of Methotrexate administration when excretion is delayed.

Side Effects: Allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing), fits, and fainting may occur.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Calcium Folinate or any other components of the product, and in pernicious anemia or other megaloblastic anemia where Vitamin B12 is deficient. Folinates given in large amounts may counteract the antiepileptic effect of phenobarbitone, phenytoin, and primidone, potentially increasing the frequency of seizures in susceptible patients.

Storage: Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
