O-Cal 740 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Orotate Dihydrate INN equivalent to Calcium Orotate 740 mg. Available in strips. Manufactured by The ACME Laboratories Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in individuals who do not get enough calcium from their diets. May be used to fulfill calcium deficiency or meet extra calcium needs in conditions like osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, latent tetany, postmenopausal osteoporosis, senile osteoporosis, juvenile osteoporosis,and drug-induced osteoporosis (e.g., due to phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone). May also be used during pregnancy and lactation. Additionally, it has been indicated for various inflammatory diseases and potentially in weight management and cognitive enhancement.

Dosage and Administration: As an addition to the daily diet, 1-2 tablets are usually recommended with meals or as directed by a physician.

Side Effects: Common side effects include bloating and swelling in the abdomen. Infrequent side effects may include loss of appetite, upset stomach, constipation, nausea, vomiting, unusual weight loss, increased thirst/urination, weakness, unusual tiredness,and the formation of kidney stones.

Precautions: Contraindicated in conditions like incomplete or infrequent bowel movements, kidney stones, kidney disease, increased activity of the parathyroid gland, high amounts of calcium in urine or blood, and extreme loss of body water. Calcium can decrease the absorption of certain drugs (bisphosphonates, quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics, levothyroxine, phenytoin, tiludronate disodium). Thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria. Aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids, mineral oil, stimulant laxatives, glucocorticoids, oral contraceptives, estrogen compounds, andNSAIDs may interact with calcium absorption or levels.

Storage: Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light.
