Oleanz 5

Presentation: Each tablet contains 5 mg Olanzapine.

Indications: Treatment of schizophrenia (a mental illness with disturbed thinking, emotions, and behavior). Treatment of manic episodes in bipolar disorder (episodes of extremely elevated mood and energy).

Dosage & Administration: The usual starting dose for adults with schizophrenia is 5 to 10 mg once a day. For manic episodes of bipolar disorder, the usual starting dose is 10 to 15 mg once a day. Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your response and tolerability, with a usual maintenance dose ranging from 5 to 20 mg per day. Take once daily, with or without food. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects include drowsiness, weight gain, increased appetite, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and increased prolactin levels. Less common side effects may include restlessness, tremor, blurred vision, and changes in blood sugar levels. Serious but rare side effects can occur, such as neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled muscle movements), and significant metabolic changes.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of diabetes, high cholesterol, heart problems, liver or kidney disease, seizures, or glaucoma. Use caution with alcohol and other medications that can cause drowsiness. Olanzapine may cause weight gain and changes in blood sugar and cholesterol levels, so regular monitoring may be needed. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
