Olmesan 20

Presentation: Each tablet contains 20 mg of Olmesartan Medoxomil. Available in strips of [mention typical strip size, e.g., 10 or 15 tablets].

Indications: Olmesan 20 is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and children six years of age and older. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial¹infarctions.  

Dosage and Administration:   The usual recommended starting dose for adults is 20 mg once daily when used as monotherapy in patients who are not volume-contracted. For patients requiring further reduction in blood pressure after 2 weeks of therapy, the dose³may be increased to 40 mg once daily. Doses above 40 mg do not appear to have a greater effect.

For children aged 6 to 16 years:

• For patients weighing 20 to <35 kg, the starting dose is 10 mg once daily, with a dosage range of 10 to 20 mg per day.
• For patients weighing $\geq$35 kg, the starting dose is 20 mg once daily, with a dosage range of 20 to 40 mg per day.

Olmesan 20 tablets should be swallowed whole and can be taken with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day. Dosage adjustments may be needed for patients with kidney impairment, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily in mild to moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance 20-60 mL/min). No initial dosage adjustment is recommended for elderly patients or those with moderate to marked hepatic dysfunction. For patients with possible depletion of intravascular volume (e.g., patients treated with diuretics),⁴Olmesartan should be initiated⁵under close medical supervision and a lower starting dose may be considered.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, diarrhea, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, back pain, bronchitis, flu-like symptoms, pharyngitis, rhinitis,⁶and sinusitis. Less common side effects may include chest pain and peripheral edema.

Patients should contact their doctor immediately if they experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., breathing problems, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, hives), severe diarrhea with weight loss, decreased urination, or symptoms of high potassium levels (e.g., muscle weakness, slow heartbeat).

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, such as kidney or liver disease, heart failure, diabetes, or electrolyte imbalances. Use of Olmesan 20 is not recommended in patients under 1 year of age and is contraindicated during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy due to the risk of fetal harm. It should be used with caution during the first trimester and in breastfeeding women.

Caution is advised when using Olmesan 20 with other medications that can affect blood pressure or potassium levels, including ACE inhibitors, potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, and NSAIDs.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
