- Restore normal motility and tone in the upper gastrointestinal tract.
- Facilitate gastric emptying.
- Enhance antral and duodenal peristalsis.
- Regulate pylorus contraction.
- Increase oesophageal peristalsis and lower oesophageal sphincter pressure, thus preventing regurgitation.
Domperidone has limited penetration into the brain, minimizing psychotropic and neurological side effects.
Dosage and Administration:
- Omidon Suspension should be taken 15-30 minutes before mealsand, if needed, before bedtime.
- Adults: The usual dose is 10-20 mg (1-2 teaspoonfuls = 10-20 ml)every 6-8 hours, with a maximum daily dose of 80 mg.
- Children: The dose is 0.2-0.4 mg/kgbody weight (2-4 ml suspension per 10 kg body weight) every 6-8 hours daily.

- Domperidone may help with post-natal lactation. It is secreted in breast milk in very small amounts not considered harmful.
Drug Interactions:
- May reduce the hypoprolactinaemic effect of bromocriptine.
- The effect on GI function may be antagonized by anticholinergics and opioid analgesics.
- Caution should be exercised with MAO inhibitors.
- Antacids and antisecretory drugs may reduce the oral bioavailability of domperidone and should not be taken concurrently.
