Onstar Syrup contains Ondansetron Hydrochloride Dihydrate USP equivalent to Ondansetron 4mg per 5ml.

Manufacturer: Onstar Syrup is manufactured by Biopharma Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Onstar Syrup is indicated for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiotherapy
  • Post-operative conditions

Dosage and Administration: The dosage depends on the age of the patient and the specific condition being treated.

  • Children (6 months to 18 years) for Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: 5 ml (4 mg) should be taken 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy, with subsequent doses 4 and 8 hours after the first dose. This may be followed by 5 ml three times a day (every 8 hours) for 1-2 days after chemotherapy completion.
  • Adults for Post-operative Nausea and Vomiting: 10 ml (8 mg) is usually given one hour before anesthesia, followed by two further doses of 10 ml (8 mg) at 8-hour intervals.
  • Adults for Radiotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: 10 ml (8 mg) three times a day. The first dose should be administered 1-2 hours before radiotherapy.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Headache
  • Flushing or a feeling of warmth
  • Hiccups
  • Constipation

Less common side effects may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Drowsiness
  • Fever

Contraindications: Onstar is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Ondansetron or other selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists.

Precautions:

  • Caution should be exercised in patients with signs of sub-acute intestinal obstruction.
  • Patients with liver impairment should use Ondansetron with caution.
  • Ondansetron should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution should be exercised when administering Ondansetron to nursing women.

Drug Interactions:

  • The oral clearance of Ondansetron may be increased and blood concentrations decreased by potent inducers of CYP3A4 (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine, and rifampicin).
  • Ondansetron may reduce the analgesic effect of tramadol.
