Oragon 150 

Presentation: Oragon 150 is presented as tablets, each containing 150 mg of Elagolix Sodium.

Indications: Oragon 150 is indicated for the management of moderate to severe pain associated with endometriosis in adult women. Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus, leading to pain.¹  

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dosage of Oragon 150 is one tablet taken orally once daily, for up to 24 months.

• Treatment with Oragon 150 should be initiated within 7 days of the onset of menstruation.
• The tablet can be taken with or without food, at approximately the same time each day.
• In patients with moderate hepatic impairment, the duration of treatment should be limited to 6 months.
• Oragon 150 is not recommended for use in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
• The safety and efficacy of Oragon 150 in patients less than 18 years of age have not been established.

Side Effects: The most common side effects associated with Oragon 150 include:

• Hot flushes 
• Night sweats 
• Headache 
• Nausea 
• Amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) 
• Arthralgia (joint pain) 
• Mood changes 
• Bone loss²(decreased bone mineral density)

Less common side effects may include insomnia and anxiety. Elevated hepatic transaminase levels have also been reported rarely.

Precautions: Before starting Oragon 150, pregnancy should be excluded. Oragon 150 is contraindicated in pregnant women as it may increase the risk of early pregnancy loss. It is also contraindicated in individuals with known osteoporosis and severe hepatic impairment.

• Bone Loss: Oragon 150 may cause a dose- and duration-dependent decrease in bone mineral density, which may not be completely reversible. Bone mineral density assessment may be considered in women with additional risk factors for bone loss.
• Reduced Ability to Recognize Pregnancy: Oragon 150 may alter menstrual bleeding, which could reduce the ability to recognize pregnancy. Pregnancy testing should be performed if pregnancy is suspected, and the medication should be discontinued if pregnancy is confirmed.
• Suicidal Ideation and Mood Disorders: Patients should be monitored for the emergence or worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts, and other mood changes. Advise patients to seek medical attention if these occur.
• Hepatic Transaminase Elevations: Dose-dependent elevations in serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) have been observed. Patients should be counseled on the signs and symptoms of liver injury.
• Contraception: Non-hormonal contraception should be used during treatment with Oragon 150 and for one week after discontinuing the medication, as estrogen-containing contraceptives may reduce its efficacy.

Storage: Store Oragon 150 in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture, below 25°C. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
