Oral Saline-I Glucose Based (ICDDR,B)
Presentation: Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) powder in a sachet intended for reconstitution with 500 ml of clean drinking water. Each sachet typically contains Sodium Chloride BP 1.30 gm, Potassium Chloride BP 0.75 gm, Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate BP 1.45 gm, and Glucose Anhydrous BP 6.75 gm. Available in boxes containing [Number] sachets, manufactured by EMCS Pharma Limited, an enterprise of ICDDR,B, in Bangladesh.
Indications: Indicated for the replacement of fluid and electrolyte loss due to acute diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, and other conditions of fluid loss or lack of intake in patients of all age groups. It also helps prevent acidosis due to electrolyte imbalance.
Dosage and Administration: Disperse the full contents of one sachet in 500 ml (1/2 liter) of pure drinking water. Mix well until the powder dissolves completely. Do not mix with hot water or heat the prepared solution. Discard any unused solution after 12 hours of preparation.
Side Effects: No significant side effects are known when prepared and administered according to instructions. However, incorrect preparation (e.g., using too little water) can lead to hypernatremia (high sodium levels).
Precautions: Use with caution in patients with depressed renal function, severe continuing diarrhea, or other critical fluid losses, as they may need supplementation with parenteral fluids along with oral saline. Reconstituted saline should be used within 12 hours. Patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients should avoid this product.
Storage: Store the sachets in a cool and dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
