Ornil 500 

Presentation:Each tablet contains Ornidazole INN 500 mg.Ornil 500 is a product of Opsonin Pharma Ltd.in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications:Ornil (Ornidazole) is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible protozoa and anaerobic bacteria, including:  

• Amoebiasis (intestinal and hepatic)  
• Giardiasis  
• Trichomoniasis (urethritis and vaginitis)  
• Bacterial vaginosis  
• Treatment of susceptible anaerobic infections  

Dosage and Administration: Ornil 500 tablets should be swallowed whole, usually with or after food. The dosage depends on the type of infection and the patient's age and weight. The following are general guidelines:

• Amoebiasis:
  • Adults: 500 mg twice daily for 5 days. For amoebic dysentery, 1.5 g once daily for 3 days. For liver abscess, 1.5 g once daily for 5-10 days.
  • Children: 10-25 mg/kg body weight in two divided doses for intestinal amoebiasis. For amoebic dysentery, 40 mg/kg body weight once daily for 3 days.
• Giardiasis:
  • Adults: 1.5 g once daily for 1-2 days or 500 mg twice daily for 2 days.
  • Children: 40 mg/kg body weight as a single dose.
• Trichomoniasis:
  • Adults: 1.5 g as a single dose or 500 mg twice daily for 5 days. The sexual partner should also be treated concurrently.
  • Children: 25 mg/kg body weight as a single dose.
• Bacterial Vaginosis:
  • Adults: 500 mg twice daily for 5-7 days or 1 g as a single dose.
• Anaerobic Infections: Dosage varies depending on the site and severity of the infection. Follow your doctor's instructions.

Always follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor and complete the full course of treatment.

Side Effects:Side effects of Ornil (Ornidazole) are usually mild and transient.Common side effects may include:

• Nausea, vomiting  
• Epigastric pain
• Metallic taste

Less common side effects may include:

• Dizziness, headache  
• Lassitude, drowsiness  
• Rarely, leukopenia (reversible)

Unlike some other nitroimidazoles, Ornidazole is less likely to cause a disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol, though caution is still advised.

Precautions:Ornil (Ornidazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ornidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives and in patients with central nervous system disorders, particularly epilepsy or peripheral neuropathy.Caution should be exercised in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment; dosage adjustments may be necessary. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions and all medications you are currently taking.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: The safety of Ornidazole in pregnancy has not been fully established. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.Ornidazole is excreted in breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Ornil.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
