Orsaline (Naafco) 

Presentation: Powder in sachets for preparing an oral rehydration solution (ORS). Each sachet contains a specific mixture of electrolytes (Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Trisodium Citrate) and Glucose Anhydrous. The exact composition may vary slightly between brands but generally aligns with WHO recommendations for low osmolarity ORS. Available in individual sachets. Manufactured by Naafco Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Indicated for the prevention and treatment of dehydration due to fluid and electrolyte loss from diarrhea and vomiting. It helps to restore the body's water and salt balance, which is crucial for normal bodily functions.

Dosage and Administration: The contents of one sachet should be dissolved in a specified amount of clean drinking water (usually 500 ml or 1 liter, as indicated on the sachet). The prepared solution should be consumed orally. The dosage depends on the age and weight of the individual and the severity of dehydration. Follow the instructions on the sachet or the advice of a healthcare professional. For infants and young children, give small, frequent sips. For older children and adults, drink freely until dehydration is corrected. Discard any unused solution after 12-24 hours.

Side Effects: Generally safe when prepared and administered according to instructions. If the solution is too concentrated (prepared with too little water), it may lead to increased sodium levels in the blood. Mild nausea or vomiting may occur initially in some individuals.

Precautions: Use with caution in individuals with severely decreased kidney function or heart problems. If dehydration is severe or persistent, or if the individual is unable to drink, intravenous fluids may be necessary. Consult a healthcare professional if symptoms worsen or do not improve.

Storage: Store the sachets in a cool, dry place, away from moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Once the solution is prepared, it should be stored at room temperature and used within 12-24 hours.
