Osartil 50

Presentation: Each tablet contains 50 mg of Losartan Potassium. Available in strips of [mention typical strip size, e.g., 10 or 15 tablets].

Indications: Osartil 50 is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and children 6 years of age and older. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive¹agents. It is also used to delay the progression of renal disease in hypertensive type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria. Additionally, it is used to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting and maintenance dose for hypertension in adults is 50 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily if the blood pressure response is inadequate. For children aged 6 to 16 years, the starting dose is usually 0.7 mg/kg once daily, up to a maximum of 50 mg daily. For renal protection in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily, which may be increased to 100 mg once daily based on blood pressure response. For stroke risk reduction in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, the usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily, often with the addition of a low dose of hydrochlorothiazide.

Osartil 50 tablets can be taken with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with kidney or liver impairment, and in patients who are volume-depleted (e.g., those on high-dose diuretics).

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, cough, and upper respiratory infection. Other less common side effects include diarrhea, nasal congestion, edema, chest pain, nausea, and pharyngitis. Patients should report any persistent or bothersome side effects to their doctor.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, such as kidney or liver disease, heart failure, or a history of angioedema. Osartil 50 is contraindicated in pregnant women, especially during the second and third trimesters, due to the risk of fetal harm. It should be used with caution during the first trimester and in breastfeeding women. Caution is advised when using Osartil 50 with other medications that can affect blood pressure or potassium levels, such as ACE inhibitors, potassium-sparing diuretics, and NSAIDs.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
