Osto-Caral

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Coral Calcium USP [Specify strength equivalent to elemental Calcium, e.g., 500 mg or 600 mg] and Vitamin D3 USP [Specify strength, e.g., 200 IU or 400 IU]. Available in strips or blister packs of [Specify number, e.g., 30] tablets, manufactured by Desh Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium and Vitamin D deficiency. Used in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and hypoparathyroidism. Also used as a supplement in cases of inadequate calcium intake, such as during childhood, pregnancy, and lactation, as well as in elderly patients. May also be used as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure and in pancreatitis.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dosage is one tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water, preferably with food to ensure better absorption, or as directed by a registered medical practitioner.

Side Effects: Flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, and upper gastrointestinal discomfort may occur rarely. Hypercalcemia due to prolonged use has been reported rarely.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components, hypercalcemia resulting from Vitamin D3 overdose, hyperparathyroidism, bone metastases, severe renal insufficiency, severe hypercalciuria, and renal calculi. Use with caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis due to the increased risk of hypercalcemia. Monitor serum calcium levels in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment and during long-term use. Increase fluid intake in patients with a history of renal stones.

Storage: Store at a temperature below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
