Ostocal C 

Presentation: Effervescent tablets containing Calcium Lactate Gluconate, Calcium Carbonate, and Vitamin C. Available in tubes of 10 tablets. Manufactured by Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Each effervescent tablet contains Calcium Lactate Gluconate 1000 mg, Calcium Carbonate 327 mg (equivalent to elemental Calcium), and Vitamin C 500 mg.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment of calcium and Vitamin C deficiency. Also used as an adjuvant in colds and influenza, and may be beneficial in osteoporosis, premenstrual syndrome, and postmenopausal problems.

Dosage & Administration:  

• Adults and children above 7 years:1 effervescent tablet daily. 
• Children 3 to 7 years:½ effervescent tabletdaily.
• Dissolve one tablet in a glass of water before consumption.

Side Effects: In rare cases, mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as bloating or diarrhea can occur. Prolonged treatment with high doses in predisposed patients may promote the formation of calculi in the urinary tract.

Precautions: Contraindicated in hypercalcemia (e.g., in hyperparathyroidism, Vitamin D overdosage, decalcifying tumors, bone metastases), severe hypercalciuria, and severe renal failure. Also contraindicated in patients with hyperoxaluria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, or iron overload. Larger doses may lead to gastrointestinalupset. Monitoring of urinary calcium excretion is required in patients with mild hypercalciuria, mild to moderate renal impairment, or a history of urinary stones. High doses of Vitamin D and its derivatives should be avoided unless specifically indicated. Use with caution in patients with severely impaired renal function, especially those receiving aluminum-containing preparations, as citrate salts may increase aluminum absorption. The sugar content should be considered by diabetic patients. May interact with Digoxin, tetracycline, furosemide, pentagastrin, aminophylline, bleomycin, erythromycin, lactobionate, nafcillin, nitrofurantoin, conjugated estrogens, sulfafurazole, diethanolamine, and chloramphenicol. Vitamin D, oxytocin, and prostaglandins may have useful interactions. Vitamin C enhances iron absorption.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from heat, light, and moisture. Keep the tube tightly closed after each use and out of reach of children.
