Ostocal DX (30)

Presentation: Each pack contains 30 film-coated tablets. Each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP (from Coral Source) either 1250 mg (equivalent to 500 mg elemental Calcium) or 1500 mg (equivalent to 600 mg elemental Calcium) and Vitamin D3 (as Cholecalciferol USP) either 200 IU or 400 IU, depending on the specific formulation available in Bangladesh, manufactured by Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications: Ostocal DX is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disease. Coral Calcium with Vitamin D3 supplements are often used to ensure adequate dietary intake in conditions such as pregnancy and lactation, as well as in elderly patients with inadequate intake or absorption. It is also used as a routine supplement and phosphate binder in chronic renal failure, and during therapy with anti-seizure medications.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is one tablet in the morning and one tablet at night, or as directed by the physician. It is best taken with or just after a meal to improve absorption. Each tablet should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. Dosage in children should be as directed by the physician.

Side Effects: The combination is generally well tolerated. Constipation and mild gastrointestinal disturbances like flatulence, diarrhea, or upper gastrointestinal discomfort may occur rarely. Hypercalcemia due to prolonged use has been reported in rare instances.

Precautions: Ostocal DX is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis (kidney stones), severe renal insufficiency, and concomitant digoxin therapy (requires careful monitoring of serum Calcium levels). Caution is advised in patients with a history of stone formation, cardiac disease, or kidney disease. Adequate fluid intake is recommended in patients with a history of stone formation.

Storage: Store in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
