Ovuclon 50

Presentation: Tablets containing 50 mg clomiphene citrate.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment of ovulatory dysfunction in women desiring pregnancy. This includes patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and other causes of oligo-ovulation or anovulation.

Dosage and Administration: The usual initial dose is 50 mg once daily for 5 days. Treatment should be initiated on or about the 5th day of the menstrual cycle (or at any time if there has been no recent uterine bleeding). If ovulation does not occur, subsequent courses of 100 mg daily for 5 days may be considered. Dosage adjustments should not be made until after the first cycle of treatment. The maximum recommended dose for a single 5-day cycle is 100 mg once daily. Treatment cycles should not be repeated more frequently than every 30 days. Follow physician's specific instructions.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include hot flashes, ovarian enlargement, abdominal discomfort, breast tenderness, nausea, vomiting, headache, and visual disturbances. Mood changes and fatigue may also occur. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a potentially serious condition, is a possible risk, especially with higher doses or in susceptible individuals. Multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc.) are also a potential risk.

Precautions: A thorough gynecologic examination is necessary prior to treatment. Use with caution in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome due to the increased risk of ovarian hyperstimulation. Not recommended for use in patients with ovarian cysts (other than those associated with PCOS), abnormal uterine bleeding of undetermined origin, or a history of liver disease. Visual symptoms, such as blurred vision or spots, may occur; if they do, treatment should be discontinued and an ophthalmologic evaluation performed.

Storage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
