Ovulet 50

Presentation: Each tablet contains 50 mg of clomiphene citrate.

Indications: Ovulet 50 is indicated for the treatment of ovulatory dysfunction in women desiring pregnancy. This includes conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and other causes of oligo-ovulation or anovulation.

Dosage and Administration: Ovulet 50 tablets are for oral administration. The usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily for 5 days. Treatment should be initiated on or about the 5th day of the menstrual cycle (or at any time if there is no regular menstrual bleeding).

If ovulation occurs at this dose, no further treatment cycles are usually necessary. If ovulation does not occur, the dose may be increased in subsequent cycles to 100 mg once daily for 5 days. Dosage increases should not be made until the next cycle. Most patients who are going to ovulate will do so in the first treatment cycle. However, up to three treatment cycles may be attempted. If pregnancy is not achieved after three ovulatory cycles, further treatment with clomiphene citrate is generally not recommended.

Doses above 100 mg once daily for 5 days are not usually recommended.

Side Effects: Common adverse reactions may include hot flushes, ovarian enlargement (with or without abdominal discomfort), breast tenderness, nausea, vomiting, headache, and visual disturbances (such as blurred vision, spots or flashes). These visual symptoms are usually reversible.

Less common but potentially serious side effects include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which can range from mild to severe and is characterized by ovarian enlargement, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fluid accumulation. Multiple pregnancies (including twins and triplets) have been reported with clomiphene citrate therapy.

Precautions: Ovulet 50 should only be used in patients who are carefully selected and under the supervision of a physician experienced in the management of infertility.

A thorough pelvic examination is necessary before the first treatment cycle.

Patients should be informed about the possibility of multiple pregnancies and the symptoms of OHSS and advised to report any abdominal or pelvic pain, weight gain, or visual disturbances to their physician.

Ovulet 50 is contraindicated in patients with ovarian cysts (other than those associated with PCOS), liver disease, abnormal uterine bleeding of undetermined origin, hormone-dependent neoplasms, and known hypersensitivity to clomiphene citrate. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy.

Visual symptoms, if they occur, may make activities such as driving or operating machinery more hazardous.

Inform healthcare professionals about all other medications being taken, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, as interactions may occur.

Storage: Store at room temperature (15°C to 30°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
