Indications: Oxcarb XR (oxcarbazepine extended release) is indicated for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in adults and children (6 years and older) with epilepsy. It can be used alone or in combination with other antiepileptic medications.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Oxcarb XR should be individualized based on clinical response. Always follow your doctor's precise instructions.

• In adults, the usual starting dose is 600 mg once daily, taken on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food). The dose may be gradually increased as needed. The recommended maintenance dose is usually between 1200 mg to 2400 mg once daily.
• In children (6 to 16 years), the starting dose is usually 8-10 mg/kg once daily, taken on an empty stomach. The maintenance dose depends on the child's weight.  

The tablets should be swallowed whole and should not be crushed, cut, or chewed.Taking Oxcarb XR with food may increase the risk of side effects.  

Side Effects:Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, double vision, problems with coordination or balance, and tremors.  

Less common but potentially serious side effects include low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia), serious skin reactions (such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis), allergic reactions, and suicidal thoughts or actions.Report any unusual or severe side effects to your doctor immediately.

Precautions:Oxcarb XR (oxcarbazepine extended release) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxcarbazepine or eslicarbazepine acetate.  

Use with caution in patients with kidney problems (dosage adjustment may be needed), liver problems, heart failure, and low sodium levels.Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as oxcarbazepine may harm the unborn baby and is excreted in breast milk.Effective contraception is recommended for women of childbearing potential.  

Oxcarbazepine may interact with other medications, including other antiepileptic drugs and hormonal contraceptives, potentially reducing their effectiveness.Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking.

Storage:Store Oxcarb XR tablets in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
