Oxcarb XR 300 

Presentation: Oxcarb XR 300 Tablet contains Oxcarbazepine BP 300 mg in an extended-release formulation. It is presented as a tablet for oral administration and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications:Oxcarb XR is indicated for use as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizureswith or without secondary generalization in adultsand children (depending on age, as specified in the prescribing information).  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage should be individualized and titrated based on clinical response.

• Adults: The usual starting dose is 600 mg per day, administered once daily. The dose may be increased in increments of 300 mg per day every 3 days to achieve the effective maintenance dose, typically between 1200 mg to 2400 mg per day.
• Children (4 to 16 years as monotherapy): Initiate with 8-10 mg/kg/day orally once daily, not to exceed 600 mg/day, and titrate to the target maintenance dose over two weeks.
• The tablets should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed, crushed, or broken.It can be taken with or without food.  

Side Effects:Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, diplopia (double vision), fatigue, and ataxia (unsteadiness).Other potential side effects include rash, hyponatremia (low sodium levels), and changes in mood or behavior.

Precautions: Oxcarb XR is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxcarbazepine or eslicarbazepine acetate. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of hyponatremia, renal impairment, hepatic impairment, and in pregnant or breastfeeding women. It may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives, so alternative methods of contraception should be considered.Patients should be monitored for signs of suicidal ideation and behavior. Gradual withdrawal of the drug is recommended to minimize the risk of increased seizure frequency.  

Storage: Store Oxcarb XR 300 tablets in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
