Oxetol 300

Presentation: Each tablet contains 300 mg of oxcarbazepine.

Indications: Oxetol is indicated for:

• Monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures in adults.  
• Monotherapy in the treatment of partial seizures in children aged4-16 years.  
• Adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures in children aged 2-16 years.  

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose for adults is 300 mg twice daily (600 mg/day). The dose may be increased gradually in increments of 300 mg per day every third day to a target maintenance dose of 1200 mg/day. In adjunctive therapy, the maximum recommended daily dose is 2400 mg/day. For children, the starting dose is usually 8-10 mg/kg/day given twice daily, up to a maximum of 600 mg/day. Dosage adjustments are made based on clinical response. The tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid and can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, double vision (diplopia), abnormal gait, and fatigue. Less common but potentially serious side effects include hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood), skin rash, allergic reactions, and suicidal thoughts or behavior.

Precautions: Oxetol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxcarbazepine or eslicarbazepine acetate. Caution should be exercised in patients with kidney or liver problems, low sodium levels, heart problems, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It may interact with other medications, including certain antiepileptic drugs and hormonal contraceptives. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase the sedative effects.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
