P-Gut 20 

Presentation: P-Gut 20 is available as enteric-coated tablets containing 20 mg of pantoprazole. 

Indications: P-Gut 20 (pantoprazole) is indicated for the treatment of conditions caused by excessive stomach acid production, including:

• Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Erosive esophagitis associated with GERD
• Long-term maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis and relief of heartburn associated with GERD
• Prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other pathological hypersecretory conditions

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose of P-Gut 20 is one tablet once daily. However, the dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the specific condition being treated and the patient's response, as determined by a physician.

• GERD: The usual dose is 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For maintenance therapy, 20 mg once daily may be used.
• Erosive esophagitis: The usual dose is 40 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks. For maintenance therapy, 40 mg once daily may be used.
• Prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers: 20 mg once daily.
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: The starting dose is usually 40 mg twice daily, adjusted based on acid secretion. P-Gut 20 tablets should be swallowed whole with water, without chewing or crushing, and can be taken with or without food. However, taking it before a meal may be beneficial.

Side Effects: Pantoprazole, the active ingredient in P-Gut 20, is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include:

• Headache
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Abdominal pain
• Flatulence
• Dizziness

Less common side effects may include dry mouth, insomnia, skin rash, and changes in liver enzymes. Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole may be associated with an increased risk of bone fracture, vitamin B12 deficiency, and hypomagnesemia.

Precautions: Before taking P-Gut 20, inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially liver problems. Gastric malignancy should be excluded if alarm symptoms (e.g., significant unintentional weight loss, recurrent vomiting, dysphagia, vomiting blood or passing black tarry stools) are present. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be with caution and only if clearly needed. P-Gut 20 may interact with other medications, including certain antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), and some HIV medications. Long-term use may require periodic monitoring by your doctor.

Storage: Store P-Gut 20 tablets below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
