P-Zink 20

Presentation: Tablets containing Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate equivalent to 20 mg elemental Zinc. Often available as dispersible tablets in strips.

Ingredients: Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate equivalent to 20 mg elemental Zinc.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency. Zinc deficiency can occur due to inadequate diet, malabsorption, excessive loss in conditions like diarrhea, burns, and trauma. It is also used as an adjunct to oral rehydration therapy in acute and persistent diarrhea in children up to 5 years.

Dosage & Administration:

  • For zinc deficiency: Dosage varies based on age and condition. Adults and children over 30 kg: 20 ml (4 teaspoonfuls) 1-3 times daily. Children 10-30 kg: 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 1-3 times daily. Children under 10 kg: 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) 2 times daily. Tablets are most effective if taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, but can be taken with food if stomach upset occurs.
  • For diarrhea in children: Children under 6 months: ½ tablet (10 mg) once daily for 10-14 days. Children 6 months to 5 years: 1 tablet (20 mg) once daily for 10-14 days. The tablet should be dispersed in 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of clean water or breast milk.

Side Effects: May cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, heartburn, and gastritis. In clinical trials with children, vomiting and regurgitation shortly after the first dose were common but usually not recurrent.

Precautions: Contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation. Use with caution in acute renal failure as zinc accumulation may occur. Zinc may reduce the absorption of tetracyclines and quinolone antibiotics; allow at least 3 hours between administration. Penicillamine may decrease zinc absorption; allow at least 3 hours between administration.

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
