PALIMAX ER 3 is a brand name for an extended-release tablet containing 3 mg of Paliperidone . Paliperidone is the major active metabolite of risperidone and belongs to the chemical class of benzisoxazole derivatives. It is an atypical antipsychotic medication. 

Indications:

PALIMAX ER is indicated for:

• Schizophrenia , including acute treatment and recurrence prevention. 
• Treatment of schizoaffective disorder as monotherapy and in combination with antidepressants or mood stabilizers.  

Dosage and Administration:

The recommended starting dose for adults for both schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder is 6 mg once daily, administered in the morning. Dosage may be adjusted in increments of 3 mg over intervals of at least 5 days, with a usual range of 3-12 mg daily and a maximum dose of 12 mg/day.

For adolescents (12-17 years) weighing ≥51kg, the recommended starting dose for schizophrenia is 3 mg once daily, with possible increases to a range of 3-12 mg daily after clinical reassessment at intervals of more than 5 days.

PALIMAX ER tablets should be swallowed whole with liquids and can be taken with or without food. They should not be chewed, divided, or crushed. 

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include drowsiness, akathisia (restlessness), insomnia, and parkinsonism. Other potential side effects are similar to those associated with risperidone.

Precautions:

Caution should be exercised when PALIMAX ER is prescribed in patients with known cardiovascular diseases, QT prolongation, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, obesity, hyperprolactinemia, leukopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, seizures, and potential for cognitive and motor impairment.

It should be used cautiously with other centrally acting drugs and alcohol and may antagonize the effects of levodopa and other dopamine agonists.
