Parkitrol 5 Tablet - (5mg Trihexyphenidyl)

Presentation: Each tablet contains 5 mg of Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride.

Indications: Parkitrol 5 is used as an adjunct in the treatment of all forms of parkinsonism (postencephalitic, arteriosclerotic, and idiopathic). It is often¹helpful when treating these forms of Parkinson's disease with levodopa. Additionally, it is indicated for the control of extrapyramidal disorders caused by certain central nervous system drugs. It helps to reduce tremors, muscle stiffness, and slow movements.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage should be individualized by your doctor. The initial dose is usually low, and gradually increased, especially in patients over 60 years of age. It can be taken before or after meals, depending on how you react to it (e.g., before meals if dry mouth is an issue, after meals if it causes nausea). For idiopathic parkinsonism, the starting dose may be 1 mg on the first day, increased in 2 mg increments every 3-5 days until a total of 6-10 mg daily is reached, usually divided into three doses at mealtimes. For drug-induced parkinsonism, the starting dose may be 1 mg once daily, increasing to 5-15 mg daily if needed.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, mild nausea, or nervousness. Elderly patients or those with a history of drug sensitivities may experience confusion, agitation, or vomiting. Other potential side effects include constipation, drowsiness, difficulty urinating, dilated pupils, increased eye pressure, and headache.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, high blood pressure, glaucoma, prostate enlargement, or gastrointestinal or urinary obstruction. Use caution while driving or operating machinery as it can cause dizziness and blurred vision. Avoid alcohol.

Storage: Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
