Presentation: Each tablet of Pase 0.5 contains Clonazepam BP 0.5 mg.
Indications: Pase (Clonazepam) is indicated for the treatment of panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia. It is also used as monotherapy or as an adjunct in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (petit mal variant), akinetic and myoclonic seizures.It may also be useful in patients with absence seizures (petit mal) who have failed to respond to succinimides.
Dosage and Administration: The initial dose for adults with seizure disorders is usually 1.5 mg daily, administered orally in three divided doses. This may be increased in increments of 0.5 to 1 mg every three days until seizures are adequately controlled or until side effects precludefurther increase. The maximum daily dose is typically 20 mg. For panic disorder in adults, the initial dose is 0.25 mg twice daily, increasing to a target dose of 1 mg daily after three days. Further dosage adjustments may be made in increments of 0.125 to 0.25 mg twice daily every three days, up to a maximum of 4 mg daily. In pediatric patients (up to 10 years or 30 kg), the initial dose is 0.01-0.03 mg/kg/day in two or three divided doses, not exceeding 0.05 mg/kg/day. The maintenance dose for pediatric patients is typically 0.1-0.2 mg/kg/day. Dosage should be individualized by a registered medical practitioner. Abrupt withdrawal should be avoided.
Side Effects: The most frequently occurring side effects are related to central nervous system depression, with drowsiness occurring commonly. Ataxia (lack of coordination) is also a frequent side effect. Other potential side effects include behavioral problems, abnormal eye movements, aphonia, coma, tremor, vertigo, confusion, depression, amnesia, hallucinations, hysteria, increased libido, insomnia, psychosis,and palpitations.
Precautions: Pase is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines or those with significant liver disease. It should be administered with caution in patients with open-angle glaucoma who are receiving appropriate therapy but is contraindicated in acute narrow-angle glaucoma.Pase should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus, and breastfeeding is generally not recommended for mothers taking this medication. Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, chronic pulmonary insufficiency, and in elderly or debilitated patients. The use of alcohol and other CNS depressants should be avoided due to potential additive effects.
Storage: Store Pase 0.5 mg tablets in a dry place, away from light and heat, below 30°C. Keep out of the reach of children.
