Piodar 15

Presentation: Tablets containing 15 mg of pioglitazone hydrochloride.

Indications: Piodar 15 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabeticagents such as sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin when diet and exercise plus a single agent do not provide adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is 15 mg or 30 mg once daily. The dosage may be increased gradually up to a maximum of 45 mg once daily based on glycemic response and tolerability. Piodar 15 can be taken orally once daily, with or without food. The management of antidiabetic therapy should be individualized.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include upper respiratory tract infections, headache, sinusitis, myalgia (muscle pain), tooth disorder, and pharyngitis. Other possible side effects include weight gain, edema (swelling), anemia, and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) especially when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas. Less common but potentially serious side effects may occur. Report any persistent or troublesome side effects to your doctor.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease, bladder cancer, or any history of edema.
• Piodar 15 should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. 
• Caution is advised whenusing Piodar 15 in combination with other antidiabetic medications due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia.
• Regular monitoring of liver enzymes may be recommended by your doctor.
• Piodar 15 may increase the risk of bone fractures in some patients, particularly women.
• Use with caution in elderly patients and monitor for potential risks such as heart failure and fractures.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, as Piodar 15 may not be suitable in these situations.
• Be aware of potential drug interactions and inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.  

Storage:   Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
